Color Throwdown Week 14

Ah! Finally - I'm getting a chance to post my Throwdown card! We had great colors this week - I was a little afraid at first, but really, they are great together! I thought this color combo was definitely reaching the outer limits of my comfort zone, so I thought I'd make a card that isn't my normal too. I'm not too sure how much I like the card, but the colors - WOW - they really do work well together!!

My Card.

A Birdseye view.

Details: The bird is Inkadinkado - I think she's quite a cutey sitting in her next! She's got a good idea of what life is all about, and probably a pretty good view too! I decided she needed to be high up in a tree....what tree?? Ack - I didn't have a tree, so I had to make one! I used a Marvy large Scalloped punch for the treetop, and just some brown textured paper for the tree trunk - I just started cutting, no real plan - and this is what I got. I think it turned out okay. I used another Inkadinka do stamp for the treetop just to give it a bit of life. I felt like the card was a bit plain, so I settled for a "Thank You" rubon. I really felt like I needed to do more with the card, but I decided the whole point of stepping out of my comfort zone was to do something different... so I didn't do anything else, I didn't add a ribbon, a brad or a flower, which is something different for me!

Thanks for stopping by! Please visit the Color Throwdown to see some other great cards with these colors - LeAnne has an awesome card and you can find directions to make it on her blog ... I'm thinking Teepee and Thanksgiving - it could be fun!! We'd love for you to play along too - and post a link so we can come see what you did!

Color Smackdown...I mean Throwdown!

This week at the Color Throwdown....Tracy gave us a doozie of a challenge! Not 3 but 6 colors!

And I LOVED it! I wish that I had more time to create the card - I threw it together this evening between doctor visits, prescription pickups, and a Pampered Chef party! I normally do my Throwdown cards and my Jacksonbelle cards over the weekend so I have them ready, but I just didn't get the chance this time. (Note to self....never ever get this far behind again so that I have to make a last-minute card.)

The card.

I had several days to think about this color challenge and my card..... this is totally NOT what I was thinking of! I had hoped for some scrapbooking paper that would work for all of the colors but I was pretty sure I didn't have anything like that, so I figured I'd get out all of the colors in paper and ink...and that was as far as I got! I thought about butterflies....but then I saw LeAnne's and knew I couldn't copy! I thought about polka dots.... and that was about as far as I got! I went to my paper pile and I found this Sassafrass paper - I was so relieved! It has lots of very similar colors to the challenge - I knew it would work! There are actually several layers to this card. The base of the card is the Ruby Red, then my next layer is Soft Sky, I added the Sassafrass scalloped edge to the bottom of the Soft Sky, then put the Sassafrass polka-dot layer on top of that. At this point, you could see the Soft Sky layer on the top and the bottom of the polka-dot paper, but then I decided I wanted to put a strip of Pumpkin Pie along the bottom instead, and on top of that strip - I added the "Barely Banana" ribbon! Next, I needed some Certainly Celery - and I thought that the greenish flower on this Sassafrass paper with the owl would work well enough - so I cut out a partial circle of the patterned paper and lined that up along the Pumpkin Pie strip. I punched out lots of circles, cut them in half, and stuck them behind the owl paper for a scalloped edge - I liked the way that this separated the two patterned papers. I used a black Zig pen to add a bit of stitching to the scallops. Then I felt just a touch guilty for not using real Certainly Celery, so I added the photo corners with yellow brads and a bit more Zig pen stitching, then I finished it off with an orange flower! So, I think I got all of the colors in....the only true color that I didn't get was the Barely Banana, but the Basic Gray Ribbon and the brads were very close, as well as some of the yellow in the owl! Pheww! That was a toughy! I was so excited to get all of the colors into this card.....I forgot to stamp! Oops!

Play along and post your link here so we can see it!

Color Throwdown Week 5

Hi all! Welcome to week 5 of the Color Throwdown! It was my turn to pick the colors...so here they are! You likey?? I do! Hmm, maybe that's why I picked them!? Or maybe I picked them because they matched some paper I'd been wanting to use for a while! : ) My true color pick was for Marigold Morning, but since that is old news, I thought I'd better throw a more current color in the mix...so I went with So Safron (I used Marigold Morning cuz I have a couple pieces stashed away!).

The card.

I've loved this Inka stamp since the first time I saw it at Jacksonbelle Embellishments, but I didn't order right away. I kept asking myself..."Self? How many bird stamps does one girl need?" Obviously the answer is LOTS because it just so happened to land in my shopping cart as I was rushing like a crazy woman through the Inka aisles trying not to be sidetracked....I was only there to pick up one clear set (Winter Birds - ack! More birds!) and a bit of Shimmerz! To be honest, I didn't even know that I liked birds! The patterned paper is from Me and My Big Ideas, and I think I've had it for nearly 3 years! It was a small scrapbooking kit that was gifted to me. It came with stickers, rub-ons, paper, all sorts of goodies. The sentiment is a sticker from the package as well. I thought it went well with the Inka image! I was also thrilled to find that I actually had matching buttons! I stamped the image on white shimmery paper, colored it with Prismacolor pencils, and then I painted over the birds with a matching Shimmerz Glitter Paint. I used Pink and Sunflower. Then I added a bit of dots with my white gel pen - I even added it to the sticker. (I was going to link the products so you could see them for yourself, but JB isn't working right now - or blogger, not sure which - sorry.)

And is Shimmerz too!

Thanks for checking out the Throwdown today! I hope you play along - and be sure to link it up here!

Color Throwdown Week 4

I can't believe we are already at week four of the Color Throwdown! The one bad thing about this is that summer is going WAY TOO FAST!

Cathy picked some great colors for this week!

One thing I've already learned in the last four weeks with the Throwdown is that I don't use a lot of colors! I don't know that I've ever used Almost Amethyst! Crazy, I know! I do think that it is a very pretty color, and I do like the purple family a lot .... I just don't ever use it! So being a bit nervous about this color combo....I didn't stamp! I found some paper that I thought would work and I used a rub-on! No stamping! I did, however, use a bit of ink to shade the edge of the paper! I find that I do this often, make cards without stamping and rely on rub-ons and pretty paper, especially if I'm not too confident about something. I made this card for my friend's mother who has been in the hospital and had to spend her birthday there. (Hi Sue! I hope all is going well and getting better - Hugs to you and your family.)

So here it is!

I had a hard time taking a picture of this card....sorry it seems so big! I wanted it to look like a wrapped up gift and not necessarily just a Birthday card, and I didn't really want it to say "Happy Birthday" and I thought "Make a Wish" worked well instead! Thanks for stopping by today! Don't forget to check out the other Throwdown cards!

Oh ya! Today is my 14th Wedding Anniversary! Mark and I are going out to dinner (without kids) - it should be fun!

Color Throwdown Week 3

It was Broni's turn to pick the colors this week for the Color Throwdown, and boy were they challenging for me! I really do like the colors, I just don't use them that often, together or separate! I think maybe I've used Taken with Teal one other time - okay maybe two times, and definitely not in this combo. They really do look gorgeous together.....but this was definitely a challenge for me and that is why I LOVE the color challenges - to try new combos I'd never think of and make a card that I would have never come up with on my own!

I was totally stumped though! All I could see was something Mexican! I don't even know if these are traditional Mexican colors or why I was thinking that, but I just couldn't get the image of the Inkadinkado Chihuahua out of my mind! Of course, now that I've seen the other girls' cards I'm having no problem at all envisioning these colors in other cards! I had to slap myself in the forehead and say, "Oh ya....that is how you do it [use these colors]!"

The Card.
He is cute, isn't he? I love that he looks like he's just shaking with excitement....just like little dogs do!

The Throwdown Girls really did a great job this week! Check it out!

The Throwdown Girls!

The details: After I created the card, I found this sketch on Our Creative Corner. Ha! Lucky me.....I did two challenges at once! Now that takes skill or maybe I was just lucky!Obviously I used Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, and Sage Shadow. I was thrilled to be able to use this Verve Visual set , Petals and Stems, that I've hardly had a chance to play with....I think it fit the colors and card perfectly! I cut out the butterflies (those butterflies seem to be popping up everywhere---and now I just need that Martha Stewart punch!) I also popped up the flower centers and covered them with Diamond Stickles. I tied just a bit of sheer ribbon on and used a little rub-on for the sentiment!
