Color Throwdown Week 14

Ah! Finally - I'm getting a chance to post my Throwdown card! We had great colors this week - I was a little afraid at first, but really, they are great together! I thought this color combo was definitely reaching the outer limits of my comfort zone, so I thought I'd make a card that isn't my normal too. I'm not too sure how much I like the card, but the colors - WOW - they really do work well together!!

My Card.

A Birdseye view.

Details: The bird is Inkadinkado - I think she's quite a cutey sitting in her next! She's got a good idea of what life is all about, and probably a pretty good view too! I decided she needed to be high up in a tree....what tree?? Ack - I didn't have a tree, so I had to make one! I used a Marvy large Scalloped punch for the treetop, and just some brown textured paper for the tree trunk - I just started cutting, no real plan - and this is what I got. I think it turned out okay. I used another Inkadinka do stamp for the treetop just to give it a bit of life. I felt like the card was a bit plain, so I settled for a "Thank You" rubon. I really felt like I needed to do more with the card, but I decided the whole point of stepping out of my comfort zone was to do something different... so I didn't do anything else, I didn't add a ribbon, a brad or a flower, which is something different for me!

Thanks for stopping by! Please visit the Color Throwdown to see some other great cards with these colors - LeAnne has an awesome card and you can find directions to make it on her blog ... I'm thinking Teepee and Thanksgiving - it could be fun!! We'd love for you to play along too - and post a link so we can come see what you did!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday...late...as usual!

Today for the Jacksonbelle Embellishments Design Team Challenge anything goes and that is a very good thing because I was out of town this weekend and came home to a sick kid, and didn't get a chance to make a card, so I'm using a card I made last week when I was in the sponging mood!

I must thank Nancy Morgan and Nancy Littrell (click her name to see her card) for this card, as they both had outside influences on it! Last week I went to a SU! workshop and I met Nancy Morgan. She had some great projects and one of the cards was a card designed by Nancy Littrell. I LOVE going to SU! workshops because I learn so much or I am reminded of a long-forgotten technique. I LOVE to try other people's styles and techniques so I usually try to make exactly what the demonstrator is showing because it is usually something I wouldn't be able to come up with on my own and I always end up loving it!

Okay, so back to the card! I started out with a piece of white cardstock for the card front and a piece of scratch paper that was wider than the white cardstock, on one end I tore it, and on the other end, I punched a circle in it. I took this punched circle (the positive) and used repositionable adhesive and stuck it on the card front where I wanted the moon to be. Then I placed the torn-edge of the scratch paper about 1/3 down the white card front and began sponging. I used blues and purples. When I was happy with the sponged sky, I took off the circle (the positive piece) , then I took the scratch paper that I had punched the circle in (so this would be the negative piece) and I stuck that over the white spot that was left underneath the positive circle punch, and then I sponged with yellows and oranges. Could I make it any more confusing? After all of the sponging, I stamped the Inkadinkado Halloween Trails witch in Black and added a bit of glitter with a Sakura glitter pen. I used oval nesties to cut out the label and sponged the edges just a bit too. I layered a piece of black ribbon and the A Muse sheer yellow ribbon and added the sentiment (The Angel Company). I finished it off with a few Martha Bats! Really, a simple card - but I love the look!

Do check out the other girls and see what they came up with!

Jacksonbelle Sketch and Contest

I can't believe it is already week 3 of the Jacksonbelle Embellishments Contest! Please read the contest info here: Contest Rules and Info. You don't have to do much to qualify - just make a card following any of the sketches and email it to Lynda. There are GREAT prizes!

Sketch #3.
If you upload to Splitcoast please use JBE020 so we can find it! We'd love to see what you make!
Here's what I made!

Spooky, isn't it?! I used Inkadinkado Halloween Trails stamp set and Imaginisce paper, Hallowhimsy - Eeks & Shrieks and Lollipop Lizzy. I think the paper is so stinkin cute! I cut the word "Spooky" off of the Eeks & Shrieks, it is even embossed a bit, so the letters are a bit 3D and shiny, and that made it easier to cut! I stamped the spiders from Halloween Trails on the background of the card with Black ink, then I used a glitter pen and highlighted some of the spiders and the web, it gave it sort of a spooky sparkle. For the main image, I stamped Versamark on glossy white cardstock, then I sponged it with black ink - I guess you'd call this Versamark resist. I hardly ever do techniques - so I never remember the names. I thought it sort of made the image a bit more foggy and spooky! After I inked it with black and rubbed it all in, I used a yellow Prismacolor Alcohol Marker to color the moon. I left the card quite simple with layers because I felt that the glitter and technique were quite enough.

Sketch 1 - JBE018

Sounds great, doesn't it?! So please please play along! I can't wait to see all of the submissions!

Here's what I came up with!

I know, it is not the best picture - but it had to do - my batteries died! I used Basic Grey Ambrosia paper, which I sadly fear is already gone. (If you ask nicely, Lindsey may just order some more though!) I was so excited to see that I could use this as Halloween paper! I stamped the Inka witch on shimmery cardstock with black ink and then touched up just a bit with some Beeswax Shimmers so it looks a bit like the jack-o-lanterns and the skulls are glowing. I used the cutest Martha punch, the bag! Isn't it darling? I don't normally like bats - but this one is too cute! I layered the bats, the first layer is completely glued to the card, and the second layer (painted in Coal Shimmerz of course) is only glued on the body so the wings can move - I love it! And the flowers.....Oh the flowers! You know already that I have officially married the Mr. White Prima to the Mrs. Shimmerz Paint, right? Well - I just couldn't let Mr. White Prima go on being naked and lonely any more. He met Mrs. Shimmerz only a few weeks ago and he will NEVER ever be the same again! I colored the Orange one with an alcohol marker first, then painted it with Beeswax Shimmerz (in all my Shimmerz, I don't have orange yet!!). The greyish one is painted with Coal Shimmerz, and the black one was colored with a black alcohol marker first, then painted with Shimmerz. I LOVE that you can create just about any color flower with markers and Shimmerz and little white naked prima of course!

Thanks for stopping by today - be sure to check out the other JB-Girls for inspiration for your contest creation!

Color Throwdown Week 5

Hi all! Welcome to week 5 of the Color Throwdown! It was my turn to pick the colors...so here they are! You likey?? I do! Hmm, maybe that's why I picked them!? Or maybe I picked them because they matched some paper I'd been wanting to use for a while! : ) My true color pick was for Marigold Morning, but since that is old news, I thought I'd better throw a more current color in the mix...so I went with So Safron (I used Marigold Morning cuz I have a couple pieces stashed away!).

The card.

I've loved this Inka stamp since the first time I saw it at Jacksonbelle Embellishments, but I didn't order right away. I kept asking myself..."Self? How many bird stamps does one girl need?" Obviously the answer is LOTS because it just so happened to land in my shopping cart as I was rushing like a crazy woman through the Inka aisles trying not to be sidetracked....I was only there to pick up one clear set (Winter Birds - ack! More birds!) and a bit of Shimmerz! To be honest, I didn't even know that I liked birds! The patterned paper is from Me and My Big Ideas, and I think I've had it for nearly 3 years! It was a small scrapbooking kit that was gifted to me. It came with stickers, rub-ons, paper, all sorts of goodies. The sentiment is a sticker from the package as well. I thought it went well with the Inka image! I was also thrilled to find that I actually had matching buttons! I stamped the image on white shimmery paper, colored it with Prismacolor pencils, and then I painted over the birds with a matching Shimmerz Glitter Paint. I used Pink and Sunflower. Then I added a bit of dots with my white gel pen - I even added it to the sticker. (I was going to link the products so you could see them for yourself, but JB isn't working right now - or blogger, not sure which - sorry.)

And is Shimmerz too!

Thanks for checking out the Throwdown today! I hope you play along - and be sure to link it up here!

Jacksonbelle Tuesday

Good morning girlies! You should like the color challenge Lila picked for today's Jacksonbelle Embellishment's Design Team! Pink plus anything!! Well, I love pink....so this one was an easy one! I've really been wanting to use this Inkadinkado, Silhouette Deer Trail, stamp that I've had for several weeks now - and I know I missed the Christmas in July, but we've had such an ugly summer here in Bandon, I felt like I could get away with Winter Greetings in August!

I really wanted to showcase this image because I think it is gorgeous just by itself, so I kept the layout very simple and only added the layered prima poinsettia, the ribbon and the sentiment and thought that was just enough!

I'm hoping that you can see the shimmer and shine in the picture because I stamped the deer with Shimmerz! Yup! I did! I know that I've read that you can stamp solid images with Shimmerz by painting it directly onto the stamp, but I wasn't sure how well it would work with this image...it is solid, but it also has quite a lot of detail. So, I first inked up the stamp with just a little bit of Pink Petunia Versamagic ink (a chalk-like ink), then I used a paint brush and dabbed on Burgundy Shimmerz, then I added just a bit more ink but made sure I didn't wipe off too much Shimmerz (my ink pad is now a bit shimmery, but I honestly don't mind!) then stamped! I am THRILLED with the results! It still maintained the detailed image with the pink ink, but it is oh so shimmery now! Yes, I could have just added the Shimmerz later with a paint brush, but I know that I can't paint that well in such intricate and tiny areas, so it had to come straight from the stamp!

Be sure to check out the other girls' stuff! I bet it will be pink!

Jacksonbelle Embellishments Tuesday Challenge

It's another anything-goes challenge! I made this card last week with a particular friend in mind; I'm just really bad about mailing/giving card (yes, I know, that's crazy, since I make them all of the time) but I'm hoping to mail it out in the next few days!

The Card.
I don't know that I've ever used this color combo before. I was a bit nervous about using this yellow and pink together (So Safron and Pretty in Pink), but really, I think it worked out quite well! Of course, I LOVE the Basic Grey paper, Sugared, and I got the colors from that paper, so really, it can't be that bad! I've been seeing some great use of buttons lately, which I am thrilled about as I have a good little stash of them! It seems that embellishment fads come and go, so I guess if you hoard (I mean hold) onto the embellishments long enough they are bound to come back! This is one of those cute little Inkadinkado stamp sets; I think they are so fun! I colored the image with my Prismacolor alcohol markers. I stamped the duck's head twice, cut it out and popped it with some dimensionals to give it some depth. The ribbon is SU pink taffeta; it ties beautifully, although I didn't tie it too well! (Boy, I really wish that bow was a bit straighter!) The Chocolate Chip cardstock looks a bit black in the photo.

I used Sunflower Shimmerz to color the bill and Pink Shimmerz for the flower. (Okay, I do agree - it is a four-leaf clover, but for this card I made it a pink flower!) You can find more information about Shimmerz at Shimmerzpaints.blogspot.com.
Look at the Shimmerz!
Be sure to check out the other design team blogs today and see what they came up with!
While you are out visiting them be sure to check out Amber's PC Gallery Idol submission. She made the Top 10! She's got a link on her blog where you can vote! Her card is great!
Also, be sure to check out Jacksonbelle Embellishments! Lindsey has been getting plenty of visits from her good-lookin UPS man! You will find lots of new Inkadinkado stamps, acrylic and wood mounted Halloween and Christmas stamps and they are so cute! She also got some of the new Cosmo paper in and more Shimmerz! Oh, and she also is now carrying Cuttlebug Embossing folders!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great Tuesday!

Color Throwdown Week 3

It was Broni's turn to pick the colors this week for the Color Throwdown, and boy were they challenging for me! I really do like the colors, I just don't use them that often, together or separate! I think maybe I've used Taken with Teal one other time - okay maybe two times, and definitely not in this combo. They really do look gorgeous together.....but this was definitely a challenge for me and that is why I LOVE the color challenges - to try new combos I'd never think of and make a card that I would have never come up with on my own!

I was totally stumped though! All I could see was something Mexican! I don't even know if these are traditional Mexican colors or why I was thinking that, but I just couldn't get the image of the Inkadinkado Chihuahua out of my mind! Of course, now that I've seen the other girls' cards I'm having no problem at all envisioning these colors in other cards! I had to slap myself in the forehead and say, "Oh ya....that is how you do it [use these colors]!"

The Card.
He is cute, isn't he? I love that he looks like he's just shaking with excitement....just like little dogs do!

The Throwdown Girls really did a great job this week! Check it out!

Jacksonbelle Design Team Challenge

Don't forget to leave a comment for the blog candy below!
This week was a very fun challenge week for the Jacksonbelle Design Team! We were each given a partner and we had to case each other! I got Maren!! She has an awesome gallery and blog; there were so many things to choose from! As I browsed her gallery, I added several to my favorites, but I picked this one to case! I LOVE the layout! One thing I love about Maren's cards is how she uses wide ribbon. I nearly never use it...it scares me and I can't tie it!! I told myself no matter what card I picked to case, I was using wide ribbon! Well, I cheated just a bit, and used wide organdy ribbon....I can actually tie it, but it is wider than what I normally use!! Anyhoo.. I can't wait to see what she did!

The Card.

Shimmerz!

Be sure to check out the other cased cards by the rest of the team, as well as Lindsey's partner, Rachel!

Product Detail: Of course, the paper and stamp that I used from Jacksonbelle is sold out at this time! The stamp is from Inkadinkado so she may well get it back in stock! The paper is Webster's Pages and there is still some left in her clearance section! I stamped the image with Jumbo Java Versamagic, then colored it in with prismacolor colored pencils. Then I used Shimmerz Glitter Paint! This was my first time and I LOVE it! I used Coffee and Olive Green. She has reordered several colors! They go on smooth and dry fast and don't smear away! I actually used my SU! embossing stylis to apply it!

Tuesday Jacksonbelle Challenge

Ahh! Yes! It's another Jacksonbelle Embellishments Tuesday Design Team Challenge.....WOW! That was a mouthful! This week it's a "Free-For-All" challenge.....anything from the store!

Just enough flowers, I think!

I do think I may have gotten a just a wee bit carried away with the flowers.....the sentiment seems so tiny and lost on the card but I do like it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the yellow flowers, okay, I love the green ones too....and the pink ones...but the yellow ones I think are my favorite. All of these flowers (plus many more) actually come with the paper.....Prima Paper - Urban Cosmos! This paper pack is gorgeous! I actually sponged the paper with Olive Green, then covered it with a piece of clear acetate paper, stamped the bird on with stazon, and added the sentiment, which came from a package of Crate Transfers....I'm starting to worry because I've nearly used all of my Crate Transfers up! The bird.......OH the Glorious Bird! She comes from Inkadinkado's clear stamp set, Birds Galore, and if you don't own this set....YOU MUST BE CRAZY! If you don't own any Inka clear sets......You must be out of your mind! I LOVE these clear sets.... and for $9.99 you can't beat it! I have a hard time using anything else.....I have to limit myself from over-using them and try to wean myself occasionally! Okay, yes, I am crazy too, crazy for Inka that is! I'm not even that crazy about birds, but this bird set is a must have!

Chloe Marie No. 2

So here is the card that I mentioned yesterday...the one that I made after my Jacksonbelle Challenge card because I was enjoying the paper and rub-ons so much! I also really wanted to use my other new Inka stamp.....
So here it is!
It really seems to be a bit dark for my taste, but I did enjoy making it. I used two different pieces of Daisy D's Chloe Marie paper. The Chloe Marie Rub-ons are so delish and as smooth as buttah! I used my Inkadinkado Patterned Bugs butterflies again and a white gel pen to highlight some butterfly spots (and to go with rub-ons, which are the solid black/white butterflies that are on the top and bottom of the card (not in the middle)). I also used the gel pen to highlight the new Inka stamp "Thinking of You." I LOVE this one! The font is too fun, and there are two tiny little butterflies to dot the I's! I thought the white sort of brought an otherwise very dark card a bit of light!

Chat with ya later!

Tuesday Jacksonbelle Challenge

It's another Tuesday Jacksonbelle Challenge....and this week...we are spotlighting Daisy D's Chloe Marie paper!

Here she is!
I used the Chloe Marie paper (obviously!) and the Chloe Marie Rub-on transfers for this card, along with my very new Inkadinkado Stamp, "Three to a Tree." When I first put the rub-on photo corner on, I felt like it was too bright with too much white, so I tried to stamp some little birds on it.. I wasn't really thinking and used Palette black rather than Stazon....and it rubbed right off, all except for the little bird outline peeking out of the corner! I figured it was cute enough to not cover up...can you see it? I went with little black baby buttons instead; I suppose I like it..still haven't quite decided yet! The two little rows in the right-hand corner are from the rub-on package as well. I Love that these rub-ons are both black and white...and they work so well! I actually enjoyed the rub-ons and paper so much that I went ahead and made another card, but you are going to have to wait until tomorrow to see it! I haven't decided which I like better; they are both quite different even though most of the products are from the same package!

A quicky!

Today will be a quick post! I feel like I'm running in about 40 different directions....so here it is!

The card.
I actually made this card a couple of months ago. I used Inkadinkado Clear Stamps - Patterned Bugs, Palette inks, Crate Transfers Rub-Ons, some ribbon and a bit of bling! I love the bright simple look.

Thanks for stopping by! I'm hoping that in the next few days I will catch up with my life!

Tuesday Jacksonbelle Challenge

Ack! I'm running late this morning! I've got a sick daughter who played a double header last night and when we got home she informed me that her temperature was 100.5! Poor thing! She even pitched a great game in the rain! Now I feel like a bad mom! She's staying home today so hopefully she can make it for the last day tomorrow!

The Sketch Challenge.

Now for the Jacksonbelle challenge! Lynda created a sketch this week! Be sure to play along and use JB006 as your keyword if you upload it to Splitcoast. If you blog it, give us a link so we can see it! Do play along - even if it isn't today....play tomorrow! I actually made the card last week while I was in the green/brown/orange mood! This week I will try some new colors! I used Prima Urban Cosmos papers, which comes with the awesome ribbon and flowers! I just love this Inkadinkado stamp (the main big oval frame), but then I added a few TAC stamps, "Life is too short....to sit when you'd rather dance." I love this set from TAC - Life is Short...it has great sayings! I also used Nestabilities, Prismacolor pencils, a little bling and Lots'a Brads! Thanks for checking me out.....and do try to play today!

A gift Box and A card!

What is better than a cute little gift box? One that is easy to make!

The Gift Box. The Box.
I found the tutorial here....it is soo easy to follow and it comes together so quickly! The Scor-Pal makes it so easy! I think I finished this project in 30 minutes...maybe 40, start to finish. My next one (yes there will be more) will probably only take 20 minutes! How cute would this be with some chocolates, a pair of socks, bath soap, a gift card, small note cards or just about anything that fits?? Okay, I know the prima flowers don't really match the bird's flowers....I may do the bird over...but I may be too lazy!

It really opens.Open View.

Product Details: Prima Paper (Urban Cosmos), Prima flowers, pearl embellishments (for flower centers), SU! Old Olive CS, Versamagic Spanish Olive Ink, SU! wide satin ribbon, brown scapper's floss, shrinky-dink paper, Basic Grey magnetic snap closure, Inkadinkado Birds Galore stamp set, Verve Visual Petals and Stems, Cuttlebug, Nestabilities, and Marvy paper punches.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Wednesday Sketch Day!

It's another Splitcoast Stampers Sketch Challenge!

Close Up.

Wednesdays just aren't the same without them (and neither are Tuesday nights as that is when I usually make the card). You will find the sketch here: SC179. Rox71 really picked a great one this time, and I had a lot of fun with it!

The Card.

You are probably sick of it by now, but I used Brown, Green and Orange again, but I threw in a little bit of Pink this time to spice it up!! If you haven't tried Prima's new paper....you are missin' out! I used Prima Urban Cosmos and I think it is gorgeous....every single piece of paper in the whole pack is gorgeous (and it comes with extra goodies too!) I decided to keep the base of the card pretty simple. I Cuttlebugged the already-polka-dotted paper with Swiss Dots and since I didn't want white dots (what Swiss dots will do to patterned paper) I ran some Versamagic Spanish Olive gently over the top and it was a perfect match! I LOVE this ink! I then used the Fiskars Treading Water (scalloped edge) punch to create the Choc. Chip pieces under the ribbon. I used an extra piece of Choc. Chip to cover up the holes as I only wanted the scalloped edge to show, no holes. The ribbon is May Arts Double-Sided Satin and it is gorgeous! This is the same ribbon as I used yesterday on the motorcycle card...I just used the reverse side. I wanted the focus to be on the image so I dressed it up a bit. I used the Inkadinkado Fancy That butterfly. Stamped it, colored it, cut it out, and then popped up the butterfly. I used some old retired SU! wire to create the antenna, then I used a few tiny Prima flowers and some bling to finish it off! I layered it on a couple of punched scallops, and I used my new hole-punch shape guide thingy (a prize from Jennifer Greco's Blog, Thank you ever so much) and it worked perfectly....I think I am going to be using these often! Well, I guess that about sums up the card! Thanks for looking!

Bright Eyes!

Have you missed me? Did you wonder where I was? Well, mostly just running kids around and watching lots of ball games! Shawn hit another home run, and then the next time up it hit the fence....so close! My daughter has a double-header tonight and I'm hoping for some warm weather!

Bright Side Of Life.
Bright Eyes
I had a bit of time yesterday to work on some Jacksonbelle Challenges and a card just for fun! I came up with this cutey of a card. I found this paper a few weeks ago and thought it was so funky and cute, Sassafras "Piccadilly" (I should have purchased more!) The stamps to go with it are very cute but I was good and decided to use the owls that I already had (I have many Inka owls). The paper comes with the scalloped edge across the bottom, I cut this off and put it on the bottom of my card, I then punched the holes and added an orange circle behind each scallop. I also wanted to use a new stamp set (Inkadinkado Birds Galore - From Jacksonbelle Embellishments of course!) that I've had for a few weeks so I thought the two would work well together, and so they did! Taking the picture was the hardest part! I just couldn't get a good one! I stamped the owl and then found my new Verve Visual stamp set "Fluttering By" and thought the sentiment was perfect for the owl with bright eyes! So there you have it....my bright-eyed owl card!
Thanks for checking in on me!

Tuesday Jacksonbelle Challenge

Hey all! It's Tuesday again....and another Jacksonbelle Embellishment Challenge! We decided to make this a "Neglected" Challenge! We were to use something that we have been neglecting!
What's The Word?

I knew right away what paper I wanted to use. The paper isn't truly neglected, as I've only had it for about a week, but I had not had a chance to use it yet....so I will call it neglected! I didn't really have any Inka stamp sets that I've been neglecting either, so I picked a bird that I haven't used yet. I decided I wanted to add some other fun stuff to the paper, so I stamped the words "What's the Word Bird" in a few striped sections of the paper on the top corner, and then on the bottom corner I used some Daisy Ds Rub-On tape....just to give the card a little more pizazz since the main image is a bit small!
